Growing up in the boondocks, was used to the sound of crickets at night. Then moved to the city & eventually got used to the sounds of ambulances & car crashes. Now a weekend in the country & I can't sleep because the damn crickets are too loud! Couldn't sleep anywhere in Yemen, even the capital, 'cause it was too quite. In Asia eventually got used to the god damn rosters' 5am wake up calls. Started missing those roosters while in Muslim countries with Mosques calling people to prayer at 4am! Now, on an island where donkeys outnumber people, the beasts' midnight nightmares are making me wanna leave this island paradise for a good night's sleep.
