Today is my 6th Xmas (2nd consecutive) outside the US. And couldn't be happier. Love the 'idea' of Christmas... family, excitement of little kids & general peace on earth & good will toward men... but hate what America's done to the day. Families drinking all day in order to tolerate each other... or decompress from weeks of sportsmen like shopping... or the financial pain from gotta outdo last year's presents. It's even too much for the kids... a few years ago watched a 2yr old walk away from the tree saying "No more!" after opening just a third of her gifts. Even her brother & sisters received so many presents that many were never opened & rewrapped for birthdays. This Xmas has been pretty perfect... Xmas eve beach party 'till dawn, a lazy Xmas day & later... a sunset sail & lobster dinner. Feeling like one of the luckiest Americans right now :) Tags: Kenya holiday |
