Feel like I've done Obama mania start to finish with the Kenyans. Started with the pre-election multitude of Obama signs & on every street, people discussing his electablity in white America. (Really, that's what they were talking about.) Then the election day... crowds staying up all night huddling around CNN... & finally, everyone jumping up & down & crying in joy. Grown, middleclass businessmen weeping like little babies. And the following day - a public holiday! Followed by a week of the clubs playing nothing but music about Obama & the churches praying for him. Then for last night's inauguration... again, crowds huddling around CNN but this time, the grown men were crying throughout the entire ceremony! Really touching. And for the ceremony's conclusion, the US National Anthem, I got the whole place to stand up & put their hands over their hearts :) Tags: Kenya politics |
